Matt Klotz is an American swimmer who gained attention when he competed in the 2013 Summer Deaflympics held in Bulgaria. In that event, he won two gold medals, one in the 100m backstroke and another in the 200m backstroke, as well as a bronze in the 400m individual medley.

Biography
Klotz achieved something remarkable in swimming. In the 2018 US National Swimming Championship, he broke two world records for deaf swimmers. One was in the men’s 50m backstroke, where he beat his own record of 26.26 seconds, set at the 2017 Summer Deaflympics.
He established a new world record in the 50y backstroke, becoming the first deaf swimmer to complete it in under 20 seconds with a time of 19.77 seconds. Klotz also broke the deaf world record in the men’s 50m freestyle, completing it in 23.14 seconds, surpassing the previous record set by another US swimmer, Marcus Titus, at 23.34 seconds.
He holds national records in several other categories like the 200m freestyle, 500m freestyle, 100m backstroke, and 200m backstroke.
In December 2018, Klotz was honored with the ICSD Deaf Sportsman of the Year award by the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf. This recognition was for his exceptional performances in deaf sporting events, including the world records he set in the 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle events.
He was also qualified to compete at the 2019 ICSD World Deaf Swimming Championships in São Paulo, Brazil.
